Welcome to New York, fellow Texans. A few things you'll find in your packet under your chair will help you as you make the transition to the northeast. Let's begin...
1. (This one is all Dowdy) In Texas everything is "The Biggest..." Ball of twine, pig, shoelace. Up here it's "The First..." Old houses in Texas are newer than new houses in the Northeast.
2. The only barbecue worth eating is in Syracuse. Dinosaur BBQ. Give it some time and you'll have no problem driving the two hours.
3. Just because it says Spring on the calendar, it won't warm up for at least another month. Remember how, in Texas, you got used to just carrying a bottle of water or a towel to wipe off the sweat? Just get used to wearing a jacket. Even in August.
4. And this one is unpleasant. Jerry Jeff Walker, legendary Texas musician, is not from Austin, Luckenbach, or Waco. I know, it seems improbable, but it's true. His real name is Ron Crosby and he's from Oneonta, New York. I'm sorry to be the one to tell you, but I felt like you should know that.
Good day, and how much you like New York depends on you.

And how much do you like New York?
Yeah there is some suckiness to the weather, but overall it'll be worth 4-5 months of near picture perfect weather. It's sunny and 65 out today so it's easy to block out bad memories of last month's blizzard.
Last month? We got four inches of snow on Sunday. THAT is ridiculous. I love New York, I've never appreciated 59 and sunny like I did today.
Yeah but snow in April tends to be like Texas snow - at least here in MN - it disappears almost as suddenly as it appears. I can handle some snow in April (depressing though it may be) because it's almost always 60 degrees within a few days after. It's just the roller coaster of weather in April that can sometimes be hard to get used to.
