Anyone else notice how iTunes' newer cds are $12.99 and $13.99? Does this make anyone else more than a little upset? If you're like me, you made a promise that you would stop ripping songs off of Napster once there was a cheaper way to buy the music you wanted. If you're like me, you were excited that there was a way to get new music on to your computer - and there was even an environmental element to it that made it that much more attractive to buy new music from iTunes. There was a democratic attraction that every cd was $9.99. First there was the fact that if you wanted a particular song - or even a song over a certain duration - you had to buy the whole album. Take, for instance, The Aviator soundtrack. I, as well as many of my six readers, am a Rufus Wainwright fan. Rufus Wainwright had an awesome song on The Aviator soundtrack. But you couldn't just buy the one song for $.99, like you could every other song on the album, you had to buy the whole thing.
The Spider Man 3 soundtrack is $13.99. Michael Buble's new album is $12.99. The new Tori Amos cd is $14.99. $14.99! That was what Sam Goody charged for music, and that's what led people to iTunes. If iTunes isn't careful, they're going to alienate the very people who fled illegal activity to join their bandwagon. And I'm on the verge...
