Not that easy

Okay, so after watching baseball for so many years I'm actually playing in a league organized through the gym. Come on, I live in the Birthplace of Baseball.

So yesterday was the first practice and the first time I have swung (swang? swinged?) a bat for at least seven years, when I was the catcher for three games for the church league softball team in 2000. I'm like The Rookie. Except my fastball comes humming in about 59 mph.

Three lessons I learned from first practice:

1. Pick your feet up. I tripped over first base. I tripped over my left foot. I tripped running backwards.

2. Wear batting gloves.

3. If you're not going to wear batting gloves, at least take your wedding ring off. I have two blisters. One the size of my entire hand and another one right underneath the symbol of my marriage. However I did find that being married hurts my swing. I took off my ring for the second round of BP and the first two swings were as pretty as any. I'll take being married over lining one to the gap, though.

So. Another practice tomorrow morning. Another report tomorrow afternoon.

Thia post is entirely false! I know for a fact that you swung a maple composite bat that easily weighed 50 ounces, had no sweet spot or handle, and gave everyone splinters about a year and a half ago at McMurry's field in Abilene Texas.
