ABC made me watch Kansas State beat Texas last year when their cornerback dove into a pile of Longhorns helmet-first and knocked Colt McCoy out of the game (and the rest of the season, basically). I've been waiting a long time for the rematch. They play again tomorrow in Austin on ABC. What will we watch at 3:30 in upstate New York? Maryland at Rutgers.
In other news, it's nice to be an Astros' fan because we don't have that pit in our stomachs worrying about the rotation for the playoffs. Here are some intriguing contracts up in 2007 and will have to be resigned by somebody...
Here is the player, position, the team, 2007 salary, notes
Bartolo Colon, Pitcher - Anaheim - this year he made $14 million in the last year of a 4-year, $51 million contract. Cy Young Winner in 2005 after a 21-8 season, but has gone 7-13 in 28 games since.
Francisco Rodriguez, Closer - Anaheim - $7 million. He'll command a ton of money because he'll only be 26 on Opening Day '08 and already has 226 saves and only 14 career losses.
Shannon Stewart, Outfielder - Oakland - $1 million. Hitting .291 for Oakland this year.
Alex Rios, Outfielder - Toronto - $2.535 million.
Mark Teixeira, 1st baseman - Atlanta - $9 million. This is the final year of a 2-year deal. Atlanta traded big for him and obviously hopes to resign him. But who's his agent? Yep, Boras. He won't come cheap.
Chuck James, Pitcher - Atlanta - $390,000. Given up 32 homers in 161 innings. That's a lot, but he's young.
Geoff Jenkins, Outfielder - Milwaukee - $7 million. It'll be interesting to see what the Brewers do with Jenkins in '08. They have a club option on a $9 million salary, but can buy him out for $500,000.
Chris Capuano, Pitcher - Milwaukee - $3.25 million. The guy has had no luck. Going into the game tonight, the Brewers haven't won a game in which Capuano has pitched since May. Is he bad luck or a bad pitcher? Wouldn't cost much to find out...
Russ Springer, Reliever - St. Louis - $1.75 million. The Astros bullpen troubles can go back to letting Springer go. Bring him back, he's a quality lefty...
Carlos Pena, 1st baseman - Tampa Bay - $800,000. No way his price tag stays this low after 44 homers in Tampa Bay. His previous career high was 27 in 2004...
Scott Kazmir, Pitcher - Tampa Bay - $424,300. He's a Houston boy and a young flame-thrower. He's averaged almost 200 innings and somehow has never posted a losing season since becoming a regular starter.
More to come...

has anyone seen that seinfeld episode where they run into the other version of themselves on the sidewalk? the alternate universe selves?
that's how i felt on saturday. i was afraid to leave the house.
Same thing here in Tampa, FL, home of the future Big East Champ USF Bulls. But, in hindsight, I'm glad I didn't have to witness that train wreck.
Interesting note about the Bulls is that they have the same Hook 'em sign as the Longhorns. They actually say, "Hook 'em, Bulls." You better believe its the only reason I'm making the sign lately.
