The Guilt and Shame of Loyalty

So happy College Football Day. Last night was opening night of the college football season, and it is a happy day here in the Gingerbread House. And with a new season comes the guilt and shame of my favorite football team. Thing is, I need your help.

I have always been a University of Texas Longhorns fan. The only time I have EVER supported a team that won anything was in 2005 when the glorious Vince Young led the Longhorns to victory over a vastly inferior USC team. I've watched that National Championship game four times and I get choked up every time Vince scampers to the corner of the end zone.

But here's the problem. I've never been to a UT game. I am a 2006 graduate of the University of Oklahoma. Bob Stoops seems like a genuinely nice guy. And I did see, in person (though my glasses fell apart in the 3rd quarter - so I more squinted in person) the 77-0 OU drubbing of November 8, 2003 of Texas A&M. That was almost as glorious as the National Championship season. But Colt McCoy is from Tuscola, and I have been to the Home Place quite a lot...

What do I do - stick with UT or move to OU...

Oh jeez, it's too horrible to think about, yet I've been mulling it over for years. How can I do this to myself...

So in conclusion, I needed to find a gimmick for this college football season and I have it. I will look objectively at games, post-game press conferences, in-week articles. By the end of the season I will decide where my loyalties lie - Norman. Or. Austin.
