So it's well-documented how we turned our cable off eight months ago. In light of the hurricane heading to Houston we had it turned back on and KHOU was broadcasting on DirecTV, so we were able to watch Houston coverage, not CNN ("Your Hurricane Headquareters...This Is The Best Thing To Happen To Us") coverage, or the Weather Channel's fifteenth attempt to kill Jim Cantore. To recap, Kami's parents are okay, their house is not. My parents are okay, their house is. My grandparents okay, their house is not. Good to hear that the Boyds are okay, too. Interestingly enough, Kami's dad was KHOU's eye on Baytown. He was the one they talked to about living on the water in Baytown. So whenever we heard from "Lakewood Man" on tv, we knew the Ellis' were okay.
Also, football was played, but not in Austin. I'm unsure of how to handle points here, probably as usual because this was basically Texas' bye-week and OU's will come later. Let's just give Texas a pre-emptive +1 for canceling the game to make sure everyone stayed safe.
OU beat the snot out of Washington. I thought this game would be much, much closer as Washington should have defeated a ranked team at home last week, but was jobbed out of a chance to tie the game with two seconds left. I thought they would play with a chip on their shoulder. If they did, the chips were Funyans, because they stunk up the joint. You've got to think Ty Willingham has to work some magic in the Pac-10 this year if he wants to keep his job. He is in the next-to-last year of his contract. A couple of notes about Washington's performance:
1) It was their worst home loss since USC beat UW 48-0 in 1929.
2) It's the 2nd time in five seasons UW started 0-3.
3) The ball was in OU receiver Jermaine Gresham's hands before UW's O-line was in their three-point stance.
4) UW QB Jake Locker led the team with 44 yards rushing.
5) The first three comments on the Seattle Post-Intelligencer's article "Oklahoma Rampage Leaves Huskies 0-3":
a. I’ve been following the Huskies for decades. This was the most pathetic performance I have ever seen. This is a bye week. Fire Willingham tomorrow, and bring back Don James or Jim Lambright to finish out the rest of the year, and then hire a new coach next year.
b. Just 9 more games left, thankfully.
c. We are seeing a truly dark period in Husky football history.
6) OU punted on their first two possessions, and then scored on their next seven possessions.
So +1 to Bob Stoops for winning his 100th game in a convincing fashion (when I thought this would be a tough game). OU retains a +1 advantage...
