I dont really get why OU is getting an overwhelming majority of the first place votes. They're a very good team and are very worthy of being considered for the 1st in the poll, but seriously 51 out of 65 votes. (OK I get why, they started off ranked higher and the temas above them in the preseason poll lost, but it seems silly to call out writers for voting differently or call them homers when you consider:

Wins against ranked opponents:
Oklahoma - TCU (24)
Alabama - at Clemson (9), at Georgia (3)
Missouri - Illinois (20)
LSU - at Auburn (10)
Texas - (hasn't beaten anyone yet, probably doen't belong top 5 based on wins so far, ask again in 4 weeks after the brutal part of their schedule)
Penn State - Illinois (20)
Texas Tech - (hasnt beaten anyone either)
Vanderbilt (not a typo) - South Carolina (24), Auburn (13)

A case could be made that, based on the body of work so far (and not just beating up on cupcakes) that Vanderbilt should be #1. This is all going to change in the next three weeks and the picture will be much more clear as you have big games in the Big 12 and SEC which will clean this list up a good bit. Just saying it seems more biased to me that considering how many teams have played pretty well as noted above that 78% of the voters didn't think that anyone might be better than OU.

I'm not saying anyone is better than OU, I'm just saying there are a lot of teams who deserve to be thought of as on fairly equal ground so far.

I appreciated Kirk Bohls - of the Austin American-Statesman - ranking East Carolina #2 going into the 3rd week of the season. Nobody else had beaten two ranked teams. So this is an interesting perspective. If the goal of the rankings is to determine the current best teams in the country, then Alabama has a legitimate beef to be #1. If the goal of the rankings is to determine the team who has the best chance at playing in the National Championship - it's a toss-up between OU and Alabama, but Alabama has an easier remainder of the season. We shall see...
