Regarding My Application for Status as a Genius

So this big project (see previous post). I helped find relevant images and integrate them into the broadcast. Pictures of Comiskey Park, pictures of sheet music, and pictures of Wrigley Field.

Many of these images had no dates. Dates are important, especially in an educational program. Some of them we had to put the magical "c." in front of (which basically is the same thing as saying "Legend has it..." before telling a completely ridiculous and utterly untrue story. You can say whatever you want as long as you say "Legend has it..." before - because who can argue with Legend?)

I had to come through on one of those dates. It was an image of the outfield at Wrigley Field. That's it. Here's how I found the date:

1. The game was taking place at night - that means it's after August 9, 1988.

2. It was at Wrigley Field, meaning the Cubs were at home after August 9, 1988.

3. Zooming in on the scoreboard in centerfield, Raul Mondesi was batting.

4. Raul Mondesi's batting stats were .293 with 24 home runs and 79 runs batted in.

5. The only years Raul Mondesi hit more than 24 home runs and had 79 runs batted, and could have played at Wrigley Field, meaning he was with a National League team (because statistics revert to .000, 0 HR, 0 RBI in the playoffs), were from 1995-1999.

6. If you look at Raul Mondesi's stat line from 1995 (thankfully the first year he could have done this), you see that going into the first game of the series - September 11, 1995 - at Wrigley Field, Mondesi was batting .293. Count up the home runs, and he had 24. Count up the RBIs and he had 79.

7. Given that Mondesi went 0-for-3 in the game, his batting average would have dropped from .293 by the end of his first at-bat.

8. The Dodgers sent five men to the plate in the top of the 1st, Mondesi grounded out to second base to end the inning.

9. So the dateless image can be traced to the top of the 1st inning of the September 11, 1995 game between the Dodgers and the Cubs. The Cubs won 12-1.
